VOCATIONAL TRAINING CENTER, MEDAN
The Indonesian Ministry of Labour operates 301 vocational training centres nationwide. The maritime vocational training centre in Medan, North Sumatra is being upgraded through a project by eee Austria international projects GmbH. In this project, the entire digital infrastructure (learning management system via e-learning and digital school administration) as well as the physical infrastructure (renovation of carpentry workshop and new construction of tourism school, training kitchen, hotel reception and carpentry training workshop) will be delivered/built and put into operation. VTC Medan will thus offer 496 positions per year for trainees from January 2023 and make them “fit for maritime tourism and maritime carpentry”. To ensure that the trained cooks, waiters, receptionists and carpenters can immediately put the theoretical and practical skills they have learned into practice, the tried and tested Austrian dual training system (theory and practice combined with digital teaching and learning) was taken as a model.
