OMV Elektrik constructed an 870 MW combined gas-fired power plant in Samsun. Through the use of the latest technology – specifically, the innovative GE 9 FB technology of project partner GE Energy – this plant meets every requirement for a modern power plant in terms of overall efficiency.

On behalf of OMV, convex ZT GmbH is acting as “Owner´s Engineer” for the civil design and civil construction works. Together with PÖYRY Energy GmbH; convex ZT GmbH took part in the technical contract negotiations, prepared the complete civil works permit design, and assisted the Owner towards the Authorities in obtaining the construction permit. During construction, the civil design review and the civil works site supervision was carried out. During operation of the power plant, divers civil- and structural design works for extensions and refurbishments are carried out by convex ZT GmbH and convex Ltd. Şti.

As the power plant site is located in the vicinity of Akçay River, which may cause flooding risks for the site with and without the effect of sea water level rise of the Black Sea, a flooding study was conducted in order to assess the flood risks that the site may encounter in its life span under extreme meteorological and oceanographic events. This study was conducted by convex ZT GmbH, in co-operation with the Hydraulics Laboratory of Istanbul Technical University Civil Engineering Faculty.
