STAR GALLERY, PLOVDIV
The Star Gallery is situated in the pedestrian area in the centre of the historic old city of Plovdiv. As the only building it connects the main shopping street Alexander Battemberg with the parallel street Otets Paisii. This connection is the basic principle of the architectural design: The shopping area in the ground floor opens to both streets with large glazed openings extending up to the third floor. The historic facade on both streets has been preserved and was supported during construction work by a temporary steel structure. Extensive archaeological findings from roman times in the two storeys below ground required the preparation of permanent conservation and exhibition projects. The structural engineering works were carried out together with our design office in Bulgaria, the United Designers BG OOD.
The Star Gallery was nominated in the categories “Commercial Building” and “Cultural Building”in the national competition “Building of the Year Bulgaria“.
