FEDERAL HOSPITAL FÜRSTENFELD, EXTENSION
Austria

With the erection of this additional building, all functional areas of the Federal Hospital Fürstenfeld were brought up to modern hospital standard. After completion, the building was connected to the already existing stationary part with two enclosed corridors.

The building has plan dimensions of 60 x 30 m and is made mainly of reinforced concrete. Based on the request of the contractor and because of the very tight construction programme, beams and slabs were pre-fabricated. From a statical point of view, the protrusion of the upper storeys over the basement was challenging: optically, it seems as the building would float over the ground. The connection to the existing part was done by wide-spanning T-beams, supported by steel columns.
