BLAST FURNACE GAS POWER PLANT LEOBEN
Austria

The blast furnace gas power plant Leoben is within the steel mill Donawitz of voestalpine and generates 70 MW electricity with an AE&E boiler and a SIEMENS steam turbine. The generated electricity will be mainly used for steel production. The steam will be extracted and used for district heating (co-generation). The required cooling water will be provided from the nearby river Mur.

convex ZT GmbH is responsible for the entire civil design, including the permit design and the civil tender (excl. the design of the steam turbine foundation). Extensive soil improvement measures (by injection) became necessary. The machine hall, foreseen with a basement, is an entirely reinforced concrete structure. The steam turbine foundation is not dynamicaly insulated, hence it was necessary that it was separated from the rest of the structure by means of a joint. The boiler is founded on a continuous bottom slab.
