UNIVERSITY FOR TOURISM, BAD GLEICHENBERG
Austria

The layout of the building with two upper floors comprises a middle part and east and west wings. The centre part of the Audimax has two levels with a library above. The side wings contain the auditoriums, IT user rooms and offices. Through extremely saving development without limitations on communication possibilities and the chosen load bearing system (reinforced concrete columns with point supported slab), an economic and timely solution is offered.

The special geological conditions required a piled foundation in the wing sections without basement. The area with basement reaches into supporting soil layers, enabling a flat foundation. The structural system of the building consists mainly of supporting walls, pillars and flat ceilings. Binding girders are only required for the ceiling above the Audimax, this is due to the span of 15 m and the large load from the library. A shed roof above the library with large open windows allows for plenty of natural light, whereas a metal roof is integrated on steel carriers above the side elements.
