FORMER DOMINICIAN MONASTERY, GRAZ
Austria

The former dominician monastery Dreihackengasse 1-3 in the Graz precinct Gries was erected between 1639 and 1661. The monastery was profaned in 1897 and renamed into “little or old Dominikanerkaserne”. Interior reconstruction took place between 1830 and 1940, as well as the integration of a warehouse building in the courtyard. The building was last used for residential, office and warehousing purposes.

The building project „Renovation and re-building Dreihackengasse 1-3“ started in early 2003. Main components of the project were renovation of the existing building, addition of another storey to the east wing, which was heavily damaged during World War II, and a new building with underground parking. convex carried out the structural engineering for the renovation and new-built parts on behalf of the general designer bkp Architektur.
